In the following series of texts “Welcome to Zemun”, we will present you locations in Zemun, which have not left anyone indifferent so far. This municipality offers everything a person is interested in, starting with historical buildings and personalities, nightlife, beautiful architecture, even hidden parts unexplored at first glance, and simply, its unique spirit.

The Gardoš tower in Zemun is one of the four towers built by the Hungarians on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the arrival of the Hungarians in Pannonia. Other towers were built on other sides of the world in the farthest reaches of the kingdom. The Gardoš tower was built on the foundations of the Taurunum fortress (from the 9th century) in Zemun in 1896, which was a symbol of centuries-old defense.

After the reconstruction, this tower is probably the first symbol of Zemun, considering the increasingly massive arrival of tourists. The monument is of special importance. It houses a studio, a gallery and an exhibition dedicated to Milutin Milanković. Also from the tower you can see Belgrade in a circle of 360° from the observation deck, so it is an ideal opportunity to take photos, but above all to enjoy the view.
