In the following series of texts “My journey through New Belgrade” we will present to you locations in New Belgrade that are of historical importance, iconic places that make up this one the most interesting municipality for tourists who want to visit Belgrade and Serbia. This municipality offers a range of attractions starting from historical buildings, nightlife throughout the week, visiting museums, religious buildings, sports events, river navigation and parts that are known only to locals, and which once you visit – you will definitely want to try them bring it back! Across the street from the Sava Blocks, specifically Block 70, Block 44 and Block 45, there is a little-known oasis of peace even for the citizens of Belgrade. It is Ada Međica, a small island on the Sava river, which for many people is an escape from the city crowds and heat. It can only be reached by boats that transport from the Novobeograd side, or from Ada Ciganlija. One of the interesting things is that battles were fought on this island, which was once part of the border. In the middle of the 20th century, the first greenhouse was built out of many that sprouted like mushrooms over time, and in order for everything to be according to regulations and to preserve the peace and beauty of this island, the association “Lovers of the Sava and Danube” was founded. The island is rich rafts are attached to the greenery and from all sides, from which the owners enjoy swimming, fishing and sunbathing. Not infrequently, daily parties are organized when people grill and enjoy music with the most beautiful view from the so-called Spitz. Several restaurants are also open in Međica where you can try top specialties of river fish or traditional Serbian cuisine, at very affordable prices. Swimming marathons are also organized around Ada Međica, and this tradition was started in 2016 at the initiative of the association that takes care of the island. Boards with inscriptions about nature conservation were placed all over the island so that Ada Međica would remain an untouched pearl of New Belgrade that future generations will enjoy.
