U serijalu tekstova “Dobro došli u Zemun” koji slede predstavićemo Vam lokacije koje u Zemunu, koje nikoga do sada nisu ostavile ravnodušnim. Ova opština nudi sve što čoveka zanima počevši od istorijskih građevina i ličnosti, noćni život, prelepu arhitekturu, čak i skrivene delove na prvi pogled neistražene, i jednostavno, svoj jedinstveni duh.
Na adresi Rabina Alkalaja br. 5 nalazila se nekadašnja zemunska sinagoga. Nastala 1863. godine opstala je sve do kraja Drugog svetskog rata. Tokom rata veliki broj Jevrejea iz Zemuna bio je ubijen, a oni koji su uspeli da umaknu Nemcima pobegli su u Izrael. Ovaj objekat otkupila je opština Zemun od Jevrejske opštine Zemun 1962. godine nakon čega dobija drugi smisao i postaje kancelarija, potom se koristila za kultutno događaje da bi na kraju postala skladište.
Od starog verskog objekta ostale su dve table sa deset Božijh zapovesti. U ovoj sinagogi služio je Jehuda Alkalaj po kome ulica danas nosi ime. On je bio pisac, veroučitelj i rabin.
Jevrejska opština Zemun dobila je vlasništvo nad objektom 2016. godine, ali je u dogovoru sa zakupcem ostao ugostiteljiski objekat i dan danas.

At the address Rabin Alkalaj no. 5 housed the former Zemun synagogue. Created in 1863, it survived until the end of the Second World War. During the war, a large number of Jews from Zemun were killed, and those who managed to escape the Germans fled to Israel. This building was purchased by the municipality of Zemun from the Jewish municipality of Zemun in 1962, after which it acquired a different meaning and became an office, then it was used for cultural events and eventually became a warehouse.
Two tablets with God’s ten commandments remain from the old religious building. Yehuda Alkalaj served in this synagogue, after whom the street is named today. He was a writer, religious teacher and rabbi.
The Jewish Municipality of Zemun acquired ownership of the facility in 2016, but in agreement with the tenant, it remains a catering facility to this day.
