U prisustvu Josipa Broza Tita i Branka Pešića most je otvoren zvanično 1970. godine, 4. decembra.

The Gazelle Bridge was a project of national importance and is part of the highway that connected the former countries of the SFRY. It was built from 1966 to 1970, while the first major reconstruction was from 2010 to 2012. With a length of 332 meters and a width of 27.5, it was originally planned in the project that about 40,000 vehicles would pass over it during the day, but that number jumped significantly, almost 4 times more! Below it flows the river Sava, from which the bridge is located at a height of 23 meters during the middle water level. The name “Gazela” was given by the idea of Đorđe Lazarevic, the president of the competition committee. Namely, it was jokingly said that the bridge jumped over the river like a gazelle, and that’s how the bridge was named. The construction was carried out by the then leading companies in the country, “Mostogradnja” and “Goša”, and the test of the bridge’s bearing capacity was broadcast live by Television Belgrade! In the presence of Josip Broz Tito and Branko Pešić, the bridge was officially opened in 1970, on December 4.
