In the series of texts “My journey through New Belgrade” that follows, we will present you locations in New Belgrade that are of historical importance, iconic places that make this municipality the most interesting for tourists who want to visit Belgrade and Serbia. This municipality offers a number of interesting things, starting with historical buildings, nightlife throughout the week, visiting museums, religious buildings, sports events, sailing on rivers and parts that are known only to locals, and which once you visit – you will definitely want to come back. ! Near the confluence of the Sava River and the Danube is the 3rd largest building in Belgrade, built way back in 1964. The former “Palace of Socio-Political Organizations” was the headquarters of the Communist Central Committee, so the shorter name of this magnificent building was “CK”. Today this building is 141m high with the top of the antenna, but originally it was 103.9m high. During the bombing, the building was hit by NATO bombs and a dizzying 35 million euros were spent on its renovation. This modern business center owned by the MPC company today has 25 floors, contains a luxurious restaurant with an incredible view of Belgrade, and even hosts music concerts. Throughout history, this building could have been the target of an attack when the anti-communist Nikola Kavaja wanted to hijack a plane and crash it into the then Central Committee of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia. You can also see a beautiful view of the tower from the Belgrade fortress, and it is especially noticeable at night, when it is illuminated.
