Moj dan u Novom Sadu: Crkva imena Marijinog

Pod sloganom “Moj dan u Novom Sadu” portal Glas Nacije vam otkriva šta bi trebalo posetiti prilikom dolaska u Novi Sad.

My day in Novi Sad: Church of the Name of Mary

Under the slogan "My day in Novi Sad", the Glas Nacije portal reveals what you should visit when you arrive in Novi Sad. The church named after Mary, also known as the "cathedral", is located in the very center of the city and is the largest church in that city. The church was built in the 18th centur, and suffered several destructions in the following years. After the bombing in 1849, when the church was destroyed, Catholic believers took the initiative to reconstruct it and build a new tower. The famous architect Georg Molnar was in charge of the plan for the renovation of the building, who did not ask for compensation for the work done, which is why the church erected a bust for him. During the fire in 1904, it was damaged again, but this time only the roof. On one of the four altars is a picture of the Mother of God. The interior carving is done in the neo- Gothic style, while the stained glass windows are decorated with Žolnai ceramics. The plateau in front of the church is a favorite place for socializing and gathering of Novi Sad residents and visitors. Numerous manifestations and city events are held in this area, and for tourists who come to Novi Sad, the cathedral and the central plateau are an indispensable part of a tourist visit to the city.
