Moj dan u Novom Sadu: Novosadska sinagoga

Pod sloganom “Moj dan u Novom Sadu” portal Glas Nacije vam otkriva šta bi trebalo posetiti prilikom dolaska u Novi Sad.

Pripada neološkom pravcu i aškenaskom obredu.

My day in Novi Sad: Novi Sad Synagogue

Under the slogan "My day in Novi Sad", the Glas Nacije portal reveals what you should visit when you arrive in Novi Sad. The Novi Sad Synagogue is located in the center of the city, in Jevrejska Street, and is one of the four synagogues that exist in Serbia. It has been included in the cultural property since 1991 and represents a cultural-historical whole of great importance. The synagogue was built in 1909, and the Hungarian architect Lipot Baumhorn designed it. It belongs to the neological direction and the Ashkenazi rite. The synagogue has buildings on both sides, one served as a Jewish primary school, which now houses a secondary ballet school, and the other building was a Jewish community. During the Second World War, Jews were imprisoned in this synagogue, from where they were subsequently deported to concentration camps, and a plaque on the main site of the temple testifies to this event. With its interesting facade decorated with ornaments, it adorns the streets of Novi Sad and attracts the eyes of tourists. The Novi Sad synagogue no longer has its original purpose, so performances and concerts of classical music are held there.
